A bit of history
Dancing in competition is evolved from dancing for pleasure. Already in 1909, in Paris, there were World Championships dancing for Amateurs and Professionals. The first dancing competition in the netherlands was held in the year 1919.
Dancing competitions were organized properly for the first time after the second world war. The Association of Professional dancers CBD was founded in the sixties. This organization changed its name in 1993 from Dancers to DanceSport. The N.V.D., Dutch Association of Dance Teachers, founded in 1920 whose primary goal is to promote dancing, is a member of the FDO-PR, Federation of Dance Teachers Organizations, which is connected to the W.D.C. (World Dance Council), the organisation that organises the official World Championships.
